Strategic Response on Environmental Conservation (STREC) is a youth-led, community-based, not-for-profit organisation working to promote the sustainable management of the environment and natural resources in Uganda and the Great Lakes region. STREC began in 2018 as a university environmental group campaigning to protect Bugoma Central Forest Reserve from destruction to sugarcane plantations. In 2020, it registered as a not-for-profit organisation with Uganda’s National NGO Bureau.

STREC monitors government actions, conducts research, produces educational materials and develops science-based strategies to address environmental and natural-resource challenges. We mobilise and support affected communities, bring together civil society and international organisations around shared causes, and engage government officials at all levels. Through this work, STREC seeks to advance equitable development, environmental conservation and respect for human rights.
